Signature summer shows Objects of Art and American Indian/Tribal Santa Fe merge into one grand event

In years past, Objects of Art and American Indian Art Show Santa Fe took place over separate August weekends. Both produced by Objects of Art, the eponymous show emphasized contemporary Native American art and beyond while the other was dedicated to predominantly historic American Indian art.

“Putting them together allows people to come to one place to see a wide range art that is reflective of Santa Fe,” says Kim Martindale, co-producer with John Morris. “American Indian art is a significant part of that, of course, but Santa Fe also has an ethnographic flair, a certain feel, that we want our show to represent.”

Martindale is speaking to the trove of African, Oceanic, Asian and other global Indigenous art and ethnographic materials that has expanded over the evolution of the American Indian Art Show. In recognition of that—and the of addition of four major tribal exhibitors from around the country—the word “tribal” has been added to the event’s name. Among its eclectic offerings, collectors will find paintings, sculpture, textiles, jewelry, furniture, books and tribal folk art from around the world.

Approximately 60 local and national art galleries  and exhibitors will participate in the show—handpicked by Martindale—both of which take place over four art-packed days that begin with a benefit celebration for SWAIA’s Santa Fe Indian Market on August from 6 to 9 p.m.

Martindale is particularly excited about the two major art installations, gallery presentations and special exhibitions that are part of this year’s event, including Variations on a Loom, Master Navajo Weavers from Crystal Trading Post During the J.B. Moore Era and Looking Forward Through the Past: Contemporary Native American Art. Art installations by Richard Glazer Danay and Jason Baerg will dazzle the eyes and complete the immersive experience of this event, which can also be experienced online.
